The Monkey Garden

The monkey garden was a vignette about kids that found an abandoned garden. When they were in the garden they thought of it as being in their own new little world. They also enjoyed not being with their parents while they were in the garden because they felt more free. I relate to this because i like to feel free and feel like im in my own world without parents making me follow rules that i dont like.

Red Clowns

I think that this story is very interesting and very odd. I find it weird that instead of feeling violated after being rapped Esperanza is more angry at sally. Sally told Esperanza that sex was a life changing experience which was "beautiful", and when Esperanza gets raped she doesnt fell the same way. She is disappointed in her discription of sex because she doesnt feel the same way at all.

Those Who Dont

This chapter was a very important one in that Espernza expreses her feeling about where she is and where she is not comfortable. She says "all brown all around we are safe." This quote shows that she only feels comfortable when the only people around are hispanics. She feels that being around any other group of people is threatining and she doesnt want to be in that situation.

Elenita, Cards, Palm, Water

In this vignette Elenita is said to be a witch women, but wat she really is a fortune teller. Elenita is a women that is just trying to find a way to scam little kids from there money by giving them a "look into the future". I personally have never been to a fortune teller, but i believe that it is just a fake made up prediction. When Elenita tells Esperanza thats she will "have a home in her heart" and doesnt tell her wat it means, it upsets Esperanza very much. This i think is another example of the whole idea being fake when the "fortune teller" cant provide an explanation for wat she is predicting.

Our Good Day

I choose this chapter because i think it is important that Esperanza now has friends to be with. She made the choice to lend these two girls money to purchase a bike. They all share the bike and have a lot of fun on it together. Esperanza decides to not tell the girls that the money was her sisters and not her own. I think the story will be different now because she has friends to be with and talk to.

House on Mango Street

The first story of this book was very important. It set the tone of wat the whole story was going to be like. I like the personality of the narrator Esperanza because i think she makes the most of her situation. It seems as if she doesnt let her. I like how she appreciates the things she has. An example is that she is greatful for having a house for the first time instead of an apartment. I think this story sets the tone well for the rest of the book.
